The King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) was founded in 2009 and focuses exclusively on graduate education and research, using English as the official language of instruction. It offers programs in life Sciences, engineering, computer Sciences, and physical sciences. University officially opened on September 23, 2009, KAUST’s core campus, located on the Red Sea at Thuwal, is sited on more than 36 square kilometres (14 sq mi), encompassing a marine sanctuary and research facility. KAUST is Saudi Arabia’s first and the world’s largest LEED-certified project. It was also chosen by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment (COTE) as one of the 2010 Top Ten Green Projects.
